Building XNU for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

I followed the instructions here to build 10.8.4 with XCode 5 tools. But Xcode generates a multitude of ‘use of __private_extern__ on’ errors. Any clue as to how to get rid of it, short of reinstalling XCode 4.6?
