I recently asked […] Novell about the status of OS X access to Novell servers [and was told to] “download the beta at http://beta.novell.com/public.jsp. We should be shipping this within the next month.”
Looking at their site, I see a file that has a read me that claims:

Novell Native File Access for Macintosh allows Macintosh users to access storage on a NetWare server using TCP/IP without installing client software on Macintosh workstations and to manage user access to the data using the power of Novell Directory Services (NDS).
The AppleTalk Filing Protocol (AFP) over TCP/IP is the native file sharing protocol that Apple ships with every Macintosh computer.
This product supports Mac OS 8.1 and higher. That includes Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.
However, it appears that this file needs to be installed on the server, which is not convenient for corporate users. I have not tried this.
