After using Mountain Lion since its release, here is my gripe list, in no particular order. Some of these issues are older than ML:.<\/p>\n

  1. Whole disk encryption is half baked. Disk Utility can not reliably handle them.<\/li>\n
  2. When whole disk encryption is used, recovery partition does not show up during start-up with the option key, (but you can boot to it with command-R). I managed to confuse an Apple store genius with this once.<\/li>\n
  3. Touchpad with all the fancy gestures still causes too much basic tracking errors\/inaccuracy.<\/li>\n
  4. The new select order for the next unread message in Mail after deleting a message is confusing.<\/li>\n
  5. iCloud still occasionally goofs up bookmark and address book syncing, duplicating unnecessarily.<\/li>\n
  6. AppStore wants to update software already updated, because it sees it elsewhere on machine, and gets confused.<\/li>\n
  7. XCode 4 has usability issues. The document highlighted in the left pan is not necessarily the document you are looking at.<\/li>\n
  8. Auto-correct, auto-save, auto-hide, auto-anything in general results in unpredictable and mental-model breaching results. This a troubling direction.<\/li>\n
  9. Time machine still tends to crap out when you need it the most. Especially on encrypted drives.<\/li>\n
  10. Launching a file does not guarantee that it will be the file you are looking at after launch. It can be behind another formerly open document.<\/li>\n
  11. Duplicating a document in Finder in a window with list view can result in a counterintuitive sort order. Should the new document be above, or below?<\/li>\n
  12. Finder actions like addition of ‘label’ to a list view do not stick.<\/li>\n
  13. A one gig update to iMovie is simply unacceptable. Thinking globally, bandwidth is not an unlimited, free, and widely available resource.<\/li>\n
  14. Finder dialog box prioritization has regressed. If you are dragging a file to replace another, the dialog box that asks you whether you want to replace that file may hiding behind some other window, like a quick-look window.<\/li>\n
  15. Spotlight is still not good. What it finds in the upper right menu and “Show all in Finder” have poor correlation, with Spotlight settings having little effect.<\/li>\n
  16. When in screen saver mode, the first character entered for password tends to get lost, seemingly going towards making the screen saver ‘wake-up’. However, energy saver with a locked screen works just fine. Confusing.<\/li>\n
  17. In preview, when you rotate an odd size, smaller page embedded in a document with larger sized pages, it results in another page to be selected. So, rotating a page 180 degrees involves click to select, rotate, click to select, and rotate.<\/li>\n
  18. Blurry icons after the machine has been up for a while. Are we supposed to restart machines twice a week now?<\/li>\n
  19. Kernel panics. Had two in a month on a machine which ML was clean installed. That may not sound like much, but still.<\/li>\n
  20. Relogging in results in a set of open applications different than what was there when logged out. (not upto date.)<\/li>\n
  21. Keyboard backlight not functional at boot time with encrypted drives<\/li>\n
  22. Autofill goofs up if you have two home addresses<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Kinda Good News<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Frequent screen artifacts on machines with integrated AND discrete video cards are now generally gone.<\/li>\n
    2. Facetime has become pretty reliable. Still occasionally refuses to ring for no reason, however.<\/li>\n
    3. Reminders \/ Notes \/ iMessage are all welcome additions and improvements. iMessage, however, occasionally refuses to transfer files. A document sent in iMessage still lingers around on other machines in your own account after being deleted in message trail.<\/li>\n
    4. Screen share works better than ever. No more video stuttering for the other person watching youTube in front of it while you are screen sharing another account over the network in the background.<\/li>\n
    5. Preview is better than ever.<\/li>\n
    6. Significantly reduced occurrence of ‘forgetting’ the associated application to open a document.<\/li>\n
    7. Improved kext handling, in particular more automatic detection and handling of kext changes in the extensions folder.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
