{"id":477,"date":"2012-09-20T12:39:33","date_gmt":"2012-09-20T17:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ethnosync.com\/?p=477"},"modified":"2014-04-23T10:25:24","modified_gmt":"2014-04-23T15:25:24","slug":"ms-office-installation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ethnosync.com\/?p=477","title":{"rendered":"MS Office 2011 Installation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After installing iOS6 on my phone and OSX 10.8.2, Xcode 4.5 and iPhoto 9.4 on two machines in a matter of minutes, I could not install MS Office 11 14.2.4 despite trying for over 3 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The install fails at the very tail end running its post install scripts. Here is what I have tried:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Restart before install<\/li>\n<li>Quit everything<\/li>\n<li>Bring back from backup, and start a fresh update<\/li>\n<li>Reinstall from scratch<\/li>\n<li>Try standalone update installer<\/li>\n<li>Try in-app updater<\/li>\n<li>The usual suspects, repair permissions, and check disk<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Office is installed at default location, and has not been moved. Did anyone else experience this, and if so, any clues as to how to overcome this?<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:\u00a0<\/strong>I was finally able to overcome this problem. The answer is found in Scott_B&#8217;s reply on September 21, 2012 at MS&#8217;s own site:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/mac\/forum\/macoffice2011-macstart\/mac-office-2011-update-1424-error-encountered\/dfe71966-ebf3-4baf-bcf6-e8d3190a184a?page=2\" target=\"_blank\">Mac Office 2011 Update 14.2.4: &#8220;Error encountered installation failed&#8221;.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In short, all you have to do is<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Rename \/Library\/Automator folder to something else<\/li>\n<li>Run the installer<\/li>\n<li>Rename the folder back to \/Library\/Automator<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a92012 EthnoSync.com.
